Communication Arts Studio

The department's studio is located opposite the Communication Arts office.

Communication Arts Studio

The studio is adjacent to Communication Arts Department office, few blocks behind the Friendship Library of Divine Word University in Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.

The studio, air conditioned with a lecturer’s desk and two spacious editing rooms for radio and television. The other two cubicles are for storing students’ files like field trips magazines, documentary, bloopers, news recordings and other television and radio projects.

Annually, second and third year students of Communication Arts take units of television and radio to master their skills in broadcasting.

The university facilitates these units as to broaden the students’ creativeness to communicate effectively.

Since 2010, the studio has been affected with no radio and television professionals. Joining the department was a German, documentary professional, Marc Konic who helped the students by teaching the basics of television production. He taught the students on how to do filming, documentary and magazines. Though, some students complained that they were not familiar with television news productions and formulating television scripts. However, television students managed to master basic skills in television production. They were at least familiar with using exclusive editing and producing software for television productions.

In 2013, a Slovakian radio lecturer, Sr. Jaroslava Starsia of Holy Spirit Sisters joined the department and a year later was accompanied by Rohan Ashley Vincent who is also the Head of the Communication Department.

During an interview with Sr. Starsia in the studio, she said students are not quite familiar with radio broadcasting. And she started the students with the basics of radio in theory.

The Slovakian Sr. mentioned series of issues affecting the learning of the students in their practical with the Radio unit of.

She said unfortunately, the studio is run down with outdated radio equipments and software which contributes to add the students’ inexperience.

Sr. Jaroslava said that so far there are not enough radio equipments for the students to use like recorders, microphones and headphones. Most of the recorders are not workable and she finds it hard to demonstrate for the students.

Sr. Starsia said all these issues are concerned with finance and they are waiting for department’s funds to solve their issues.

  1. Wow, if the administration of the university still delays the funds to the Communication Arts studio. I think its no use taking television and radio after all. By the way, the building should be used for another benefit of the department or school than CA studio.
