Rohan Ashley Vincent (HoD)

  Mr. Rohan Vincent is the Head of Department for Communication Arts Department under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Divine Word University (DWU). Having lived in Australia, India, Saudi Arabia, and now Papua New Guinea, he has been exposed to various cultures over the years. Prior to joining DWU in 2014, he was employed with the The Times of India. Rohan holds a Master of Journalism, Media and Communications (MJMC) from the  University of Tasmania, Australia, where he was a recipient of the Tasmanian International Scholarship. As part of his degree, he completed his research on – ‘A Study on the Decline in Press Freedom in Sri Lanka, with a Focus on the Final Stages of the Civil War’. He also holds a Master of Arts in Communication (MA) from the Madras Christian College, India, where he was an all-rounder and one of the toppers, and completed his dissertation on – ‘An Audience Analysis on the Glorification of the Mafia in Films, with Special Reference to the Movie – The Godfather’.

In addition, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations (PGDPR) from Annamalai University, India, and a Post Graduate Diploma in International Business Law (PGDIBL) from The ICFAI University, India. He completed his Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) from SRM Arts and Science College, India. Rohan has a keen interest in languages and at the moment, he is learning Tok Pisin.

He is proficient in English, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam, in addition to having working knowledge of both German and French. Rohan currently teaches television units such as Broadcast Journalism and Television News, electives such as Film Studies for Development, and other units like Communication and Development, End-User Computing and Word Processing, News and Current Affairs Awareness.

When asked if there was a need for more staff, he said there should be two or three more staff to join them as the five current lecturers are overloading their work as they are teaching more than three units from Year 1 to year 4.

Alphonse Aime

Alphonse Aime

   Alphonse Aime came to Divine Word University in 2001 as a lecturer in the Communication Arts   Department where he taught Media Law and Ethics, Tok Pisin, Asia-Pacific Development, PNG History and Business Communication. He previously was the General Editor of the Melanesian Institute publications in Goroka where he worked for nine years. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia in 1999. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Divine Word University. In 2011 he began doctoral studies at the University of Queensland.

 

 

Patrick Matbob

Patrick Matbob

Patrick started his journalism career in 1985 and worked for Wantok Niuspepa, The Times of Papua New Guinea and The Post-Courier newspapers as a reporter, music columnist, and a sub-editor. In 1998 he launched and edited PNG’s first monthly newspaper magazine called, ‘Papua New Guinea Magazine’, which was published in the Post-Courier. He joined Divine Word University in 2002 and is currently teaching Publishing, Layout & Design and applied research for social science.

He has a Masters Degree in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University in Wales. He has researched and published papers on advocacy journalism, the West Papuan issue and the national elections. His current research interests include the impact of the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone project, the Ramu Nickel project and governance issues in Madang. He is a correspondent for the Island Business Magazine and also writes for Post-Courier. He is co-editor of Communication, Culture and Society in Papua New   Guinea.

Stephanie Tapungu

Stephanie Tapungu

Stephanie Tapungu joined DWU this academic year 2013 and she is a lecturer with the Communication Arts Department. She currently holds a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Teaching in the fields of Language and Literature and Social Science from the University of Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, PNG and a Master of Communication in the field of Organisational Communication from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. She has a vast experience as a teacher, facilitator and trainer in the secondary and TVET institutions in PNG. Her specialization is Language and Literature, Social Science, Corporate Communication, Professional Communication, Public Relations, and Communication for Social Change, Qualitative Research, Marketing Communication Management, Business Ethics and Management. She is passionate about Women and Gender issues in PNG and hopes to work closely with women groups in the province to address these issues.

 

Sr. Jaroslava Starsia

Sr. Jaroslava Starsia

Sr. Jaroslava Starsia comes from Slovakia and belongs to the Congregation of the Holy Spirit Sisters. She joined DWU as a lecturer with the Communication Arts Department in 2014 and teaches radio units and basic Journalism. Holding a Master of History and Theology, and Certificate in Journalism with specialization on Radio Broadcasting she started her teaching career in 1993 as a primary and secondary school teacher in Slovakia. Her interest in media has been developed during the time of her 10-years professional experience in Radio Lumen as a presenter, editor and producer. She is currently working on the project Radio Diwai that should serve DWU community in the future.
