Join Communication Arts

The Department of Communication Arts offer units that enables our students to become communication specialists in their works of life. Students learn print media, radio, television, internet and publishing skills using modern electronic facilities.

Students are assessed on their knowledge on development and communication issues as well as enhancing their ability to critically analyze social concerns in relation to development in Papua New Guinea as a communication expert.

Course Programs

The department help facilitate teaching and learning for students in PNG as well as the Pacific Islands so that they would enhance their communication skills through investigative reporting online, through print media, radio and television broadcast as well as participating in development issues in the country and the Pacific

Program Structure

There are 3 main areas:

Firstly, is the main subject areas in Communication Arts. The content includes communication theories and concepts, research methodologies, development philosophies and indigenous knowledge embedded in the communication theories and concepts.

The second area is the skills area. It complements the theories above and skills learned are communication skills, ICT, radio and television, library and research skills.

The third area focus on the core values, ethics and life enhancement which is regarded as compulsory by Divine Word University.

Entry Requirements

Those who wish to do a Bachelor of Communication Arts (Journalism) studies will have to have a “B” in English and “B” average in their year 12 examinations in secondary schools in PNG of the Pacific. Special consideration is also given to students who have a diploma in communication and have work experience in any mainstream media and are willing to pursue their Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Study duration and mode

The main program of the Communication Arts Department is the four year Bachelor of Communication Arts (Journalism). Students can apply for a full time study and live on campus or live off campus.
